The question is as follows:
When you begin a relationship, how do you juggle between having this new someone and your old friends?
The answer:
There are no set rules in this department.
It is really all up to the couple and how much interaction they still want with their friends. I think it is good to have a good balance of both. As a couple you should be building your relationship. However, you do not want to burn bridges with your friends.
My thoughts may not be logical or flow, but I'll do my best.
Things to note:
- It is really hard to still have friends that are members of the opposite gender. Still possible, but more difficult. It is something that obviously must be discussed between the couple. If your guy or girl friends are really important to you, say so and work it out.
- Remember, be understanding.
- Be open to meet other people. If you are in a relationship, be willing to meet and be friends with your partner's friends! They mean a lot to them so they should mean a lot to you.
For the couple:
- Don't be too touchy [PDA] in front of your single friends. It is OK to let go of each other. It isn't that we mind you being together. We are really happy that you are dating. We just don't want to see all of the PDA.
- Let your single friends know that you still want to do stuff! They want to be with you too but just don't know what they are allowed to do.
- Have single friend time! Girls/guys night out.
For the single friends:
- Invite the new couple to do things with you. They are probably confused about what to do and how they fit in.
- Still be a friend and be understanding. If you miss your friend let them know!
- Let them have their couple time!
