Front door lights

In driving around at night I have found that people no longer turn their front porch light on. This is so unwelcoming. I wonder why this is. Do we really just not want visitors? Or do we really just forget to turn them on? Anyway just a rambling.

Oldest Child

First off, chivalry isn't completely dead. I'm keeping it alive ;)

Second off, I'm home doing my genealogy project. Yes - it is a saturday night. Don't freak out. I did go out already tonight and went to a harp concert. It was great! I'm sure you are wondering why the title of this blog is as it is. Well herein lies the story. As I'm writing up my reports on the genealogical research I've done, I realize that a good amount of my ancestors were the oldest child in their family. I think it would be interesting to do a statistical analysis of my file and figure out how many were the oldest/middle/youngest child. Anyway. That is it. Back to writing papers :)

Chivalry IS dead

There are a few exceptions to this in society. I have several guy friends that keep it living (some more than others). In general though, I have found that no one cares for anyone else and only thinks of themselves. Obviously there is a story behind this, so here it goes.

I was walking in to the building where I work. There are four doors into the building. At this particular time there were several people coming out of the building. I noticed at least three strapping men walking out the door. They walked out the door just as a young mother was pushing her stroller towards the door. They didn't even notice her struggle to open the door for herself. I rushed over to open the door and help her out. I mean, really. Are we so self consumed that we don't notice the little things we can help others out with?! This doesn't just go for the guys, girls don't help anyone out either. It really doesn't hurt anything to help someone out.

I have also noticed that people don't take care of their surroundings. It doesn't take that much effort to pick up a piece of trash on the floor and take it to a nearby trashcan.

People just don't care.

Inspiration

The past few days I’ve been living in a hole. A good hole. But hole nonetheless. I’m doing my genealogy. I’m putting things together. I spend all of my evenings with my deceased ancestors. While in this hole I’ve climbed out a few times and had some good conversations with living people that have really inspired me.

Jeremy inspired me to be more outgoing and really talk to others especially in the ward. I used to be really concerned about others and tried to find ways to help them in their various trials. I did things like visit others and give secret Santa gifts. I then became the Relief Society President and that was my calling. However, after being released I seem to have let that part of my life go. I need it back!! So here I come!!!

I also had a conversation with Mary and she was telling me about a present she is giving a good friend of hers. This present is just a paper with quotes from her journals where she had written about him; his characteristics that impressed her and her memories of him. This has inspired me to be better about writing I my journal and writing my feelings, thoughts and interactions with others. Write about things that impress me about them. What I think about certain situations. I’m excited to get started again. It is nice to think about how these records will help me as I look back and read previous entries. (Records – gosh I’m such a genealogist!!!!)

At work there are so many fantastic people. I am truly blessed to know them. I started talking with Nuri. She is from Spain and is a bit older than I am. We began talking about dating and culture differences and European clothing styles. She is such a positive person. It was so nice to talk to her and be reminded once again of the eternal perspective. Take time to have fun but remember what is really important. I so often forget and need to be reminded.

I need a break

I'm beginning the 3 weeks from "down under" as I prepare for the end of a semester.

Positive note first: Thanksgiving was a great break! I love seeing my family and spending time in my home where love abounds. It was super fun to go shopping, watch movies, eat lots and cheer for BSU and BYU. It is crazy to think that that home will be gone in a few weeks.

Less positive note/reason for this post: my to do list was created today. It is growing way too fast. I have projects to complete, papers to write, families to analyze, books to read, quizzes to take, scholarships to apply for, internships to organize, work to do, passports to pick up, visas to apply for, insurance to figure out, tests to study for, stuff to organize, presents to buy/make just to name a few.

I am excited to finish up everything but it is going to be a lot of focused work (I hear work is good for you). I just finished my scholarship applications and needed a break from intense brain usage before I begin frying it again. I'm sure I will post more the next 3 weeks than usual as a break from the brain fry-age.

I also just got on Skype in preparation for England. Come find me. :)

YOU KNOW HIM!?

Saturday night I spent the night at my cousin's house. We were discussing life (also known as dating). The conversation went as followed:

Angela: I like dating older men.
Heather: My roommate is about to date this guy who is 26. She is 19. You should date him. His name is Zatl.
Angela: What is his name?
Heather: Zatl.
Angela: Zatl Pearce?
Heather: Yessss.... Do you know him?
Angela: I almost dated him last year!!

We went off for about thirty minutes talking about him. Comparing stories and saying "yup, that's him". Super funny! What a small world it is!

Not your problem?!

I just need to vent about this. So in my history class we have to turn in these one paragraphy essays to indicate that we actually did the reading. First off, load of crap! What happened to being responsible college students that abide the Honor Code. If we didn't do the reading that is our loss. We don't need to have a little paragraph to indicate.

Anyway - I get frustrated with busy work and having to waste paper for a single paragraph when it is just as easy if not more efficient to email that in (if we have to do it). And today to top it off the printers on campus don't work. Apparently that is not my TAs problem. HELLO!!! This is the only printer many of us use! It isn't our fault so don't dock us off! We can't even email it to him!!! Gruff!!!
